Glen Iris Elementary School
This historic school in the Southside area of Birmingham was originally built in 1923. It served as a K-12 facility until 1939. Currently, the school houses students Pre-K through 5th grade. The building was slated for renovations when Argo Building Co. took on the project in late 2004. Along with construction renovations to the exterior and interior, the building required all new ductwork and low-voltage electrical equipment to update the school, which was not originally built to support an air conditioning system. The school features 38 classrooms and accommodates nearly 800 students. The project consisted of a complete renovation of the historic three-story 100,000 sq. ft. school along with the construction of a 45,000 sq. ft. addition.
